Tanzania Tourism

Tanzania is endowed with unique tourism mix that range from national parks, game reserves, the great Mount Kilimanjaro to the famous Spice Island of Zanzibar. One of the National parks is Serengeti which offers the absolute classic African safari setting with the migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra that start there. Bordering Serengeti in the northern Tanzania is Ngorongoro conservation area that includes the world’s largest crater which acts as a natural enclosure for almost every species of wildlife found in East Africa including the very rare black rhino.

Bakiri Angalia – Summit Chairman

On behalf of Mpingo Tourism Committee I would like to welcome you all to the first tourism summit in Tanzania.

Tanzania is one of the fastest growing tourism destinations in the world with its unique tourism product mix ranging from beautiful beaches, national parks, game reserves, historical sites, culture and traditions to natural wonders. The tourism industry contributes 20 percent of national GDP, leaving behind sectors like mining and manufacturing. However from a foreign exchange earning point of view, tourism has the potential of beating sectors like Agriculture and Industry which contributes 47% and 25% respectively.

In 2012 alone, Tanzania received 950,000 foreign visitors that generated Tsh 2.24 trillion revenues. This is an indication that, should more efforts be directed to improving the quality of the industry, Tanzanian tourism sector is bound to experience enormous growth from the 825,122 in 2008 to a million tourists that are expected to bring in the net earnings of Tshs.2.7 trillion by the end of 2013.

However, in the light of the most recent incidences of poaching that has seen the decimation of elephant herd from 109,000 in 2009 to below 70,000 in 2012 and other constraints like climate change and tourism shift are critical issues which requires common effort to guarantee survival of the tourism sector, these constraints is the loud call to Private sector, Government and community to take initiative towards responsible tourism, on this note Global skill Consulting has decided to launch a Tanzania responsible tourism conference named MPINGO TOURISM SUMMIT. Aiming to bring together the local and international key stakeholders of the industry to address the issues facing the industry and develop solutions centered on exploiting the potentiality of the sector while still ensuring its continuity for the future generations.
